Natsukashii is an ongoing personal project, re-imagining the nostalgic imaginary worlds of my childhood. A series of whimsical and colourful illustrations enhanced by soft animation and ASMR, this project aims to evoke the same carefree, relaxed feelings as one's childhood.
Natsukashii: A Japanese word for a sudden warm feeling evoked by small things, which brings back old memories and makes the heart fonder while reminiscing the moment. I started this project as an ode to the beautiful imaginative world I used to daydream about as a child. While growing up, I was exposed to an array of books and animated movies. What I read and saw, I would recreate in my mind, and imagine myself playing in the different, almost magical wilderness for hours. As an adult when I have finally started travelling and exploring far off lands, a lot of times, certain places, or scenarios, evoke the same feeling of euphoria which I would experience as a child. Sometimes, some places looked so similar, that it would bring back a strong but sweet feeling of times old, and I would feel like a child all over again. Through this ongoing series, I am trying to recreate that same warm feeling and the simple joys of childhood that each one of us has experienced.
